Affordable Markets Launched Across Jakarta Ahead of Christmas and New Year

To make it easier for residents to obtain staple goods ahead of Christmas and New Year holidays, the Jakarta Provincial Government has once again launched affordable markets across the city.

"...to distribute staple commodities below market prices to underprivileged residents,"

Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) Agency Head, Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, said the affordable market program is scheduled to run simultaneously across five administrative cities for five days, from December 1 to 5, 2025.

The program, she explained, is a strategic initiative carried out in collaboration with various stakeholders to stabilize food prices and supply, while assisting underprivileged families.

Governor Pushes Innovation and Collaboration to Strengthen Retail Sector

"The main goal of the affordable market is to distribute staple commodities below market prices to underprivileged residents or those living in densely populated areas, including riverbanks and areas near railways, while ensuring that demand for staple commodities is met," she shared on Tuesday (12/2).

She pointed out that rising prices before major religious holidays can often cause unrest in the public. For this reason, the affordable market program serves as a concrete solution by the Jakarta Provincial Government to stabilize prices and ensure food accessibility, especially for underprivileged families.

“Local-level work units at the urban village and sub-district levels have designated several affordable market locations. We're ensuring that the subsidized goods reach the right target,” she added.

Ratu hoped that selling staple goods below market prices would greatly support low-income residents in maintaining their purchasing power during the increased demand of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.

The program involved a number of stalls and tents supported by government agencies, BUMN/BUMD, private businesses, coached MSMEs, food-related BUMDs such as PT Food Station, PD Dharma Jaya, and Bulog, to ensure the availability of essential commodities.

"The 2025 Nataru Affordable Market program reflects the Jakarta Provincial Government's strong commitment to creating a sense of security and comfort for residents through food-related inflation control," she noted.

Here is the schedule and locations of the Affordable Market from December 1 to 5, 2025:

  • December 1 - Petamburan Public Housing, RW 011 (Central Jakarta)
  • December 2 - Cilincing Sub-district (North Jakarta)
  • December 3 - Pesakih Public Housing (West Jakarta)
  • December 4 - Pasar Rebo Sub-district (East Jakarta)
  • December 5 - RPTRA Bhineka (South Jakarta)
